THE ORDER OF MARIPOSA

In 1986, the Stephen Leacock Associates awarded its first Order of Mariposa to actress Barbara Hamilton. This Award, designed to recognize contributions to Canadian humour in a form other than the written word, is presented approximately every two years and there have been six winners since that luncheon hosted at the McGill Club of Toronto.

In 2001 the Order of Mariposa was conferred on Lynn Johnston in recognition of her syndicated comic strip, For Better or For Worse. Lynn joined Barbara Hamilton, Duncan MacPherson, Pierre Berton, Ben Wicks, Dave Broadfoot and Don Herron as the seventh recipient of the award.

In 2005 the order was bestowed upon Morley Torgov.

The physical award consists of a framed personal portrait by renown caricaturist Isaac Bickerstaff (aka, Don Evans) identifying them as a most Honoured Member of The Order of Mariposa.
