This
year’s finalists include CBC radio personality Stuart McLean for his book Secrets
From the Vinyl Cafe. Giller
Award nominee Douglas Coupland also finds himself making the short list of with his entry, JPod,
a postmodern look at techno-geeks. Ryan Knighton’s darkly humorous memoir Cockeyed
makes the short list this year. It takes considerable talent to make one laugh
about encroaching blindness but this young author does just that. Tuckahoe
Slidebottle is the “unusual” title of Neil McKinnon’s novel about life
in a very “usual” small town on the Prairies. The
Passionate Gardener by Des Kennedy rounds out this year’s list of Leacock
finalists. As one might expect from the title, it is an irreverent look at the
art of gardening.
