Essay Submission Notes

Starting with the student awards for 2023, we are allowing submissions on-line in addition to the traditional method of mailing essays in.

The steps in this process are as follows:

Enter the details about you, your essay title and your school on this page.
After you click on the Submit button, you will be asked to save and print your personalized instruction sheet with its identifying Submission ID.
Print or save your instruction sheet for future reference.
You will receive an automated acknowledgement email with clickable links that allow you to print additional copies of the instructions and to upload your essay file after you leave the website.
Your essay will be added to the list of entries when you have uploaded your essay file and paid the submission fee. This list is not accessible by the general public.

When entering the data:

Please fill in as much information as you can, beyond those items marked as essential. This means full addresses.

If you make a mistake...

and accidentally submit an entry with incorrect information on it, please email our student awards coordinator at studentawards@leacock.ca or the webmaster at webmaster@leacock.ca.

Social Media IDs/Hashtags:

The intention of this section was for us to get a better picture of the popularity of various social media platforms among students. However, we should have provided a checklist rather than asking for IDs or hashtags. Instead of entering your ID or hashtag, please type "Yes" against those platforms that you use.
Your providing this information does not have any effect upon the evaluations by the judges; they are not privy to this data.

Sending eTransfers:

The entry fee for the competition is $5, which you can send by eTransfer to etransfer@leacock.ca.
If you bank at the CIBC, their facility to send an eTransfer does not offer the ability to enter any explanatory details. In this case, please also email pr@leacock.ca, indicating you have made the payment, giving the bank account owner's name (often a parent), the student's name and the Submission ID.
